Whatever We Imagine Is.

Whatever we think, believe, or imagine is.
At a macro level, we have a choice – right now – to believe we are in the middle of an uncontrollable downward spiral, or to believe we are re-calibrating, creatively connecting, course-correcting, and conquering our way back up.
Which do you choose to believe?

One thing is for certain: We are not standing still.

Media has a huge imprint on our imagination. Vivid imagery, eye-catching headlines, and at times all-too-descriptive content deeply influence our perception of reality. It can also distract us from the very things that need our attention the most.

Here’s a recent example: “The world is drowning in trash, and the waste generation rates are only increasing, according to the World Bank. Due to population growth and urban areas growth, the amount of trash countries produce is only expected to rise – by some estimates as much as 70% between 2016 and 2050.” [USA TODAY]

And another: “We all knew that restoring forests could play a part in tackling climate change, but we didn’t really know how big the impact would be. Our study shows clearly that forest restoration is the best climate change solution available today. But we must act quickly, as new forests will take decades to mature and achieve their full potential as a source of natural carbon storage.” ~ Prof. Thomas Crowther, co-author of the study and founder of the Crowther Lab at ETH Zurich

We can choose to focus on the problem or the solution. But where we place our focus grows.

I am placing my focus a whole lot on leadership these days.

Leadership and I have an interesting relationship. It enamors me and saddens me all at the same time. I see the problem, and I see the solution.

What does a 30,000′ strategic view look like in terms of mobilizing great leaders?
Remembering that whatever we think, believe, or imagine, is:

Let’s start here: What is no longer serving us at the highest level of leadership?

❗  HOW are we leading?

Our overall belief of what leadership is and the values that we expect to be consistently demonstrated by leaders with power, influence and decision-making privileges are in need of serious review by all of us.

I believe, at the highest level or the meta level, we drastically need to re-invent or up-level what leadership even looks like; because in most cases, it has vanished. Leadership demonstrated currently will not get us ‘there‘.

Where is there? The world we envision for our families and our future.

❗  Ready to run?

At the macro level of women’s collective leadership, let’s start by admitting that what we have been doing is not working at the speed in which it is needed to work in the future. The momentum or traction over the past 20-25 years in women’s leadership (both nationally & globally) has been negligible. So let’s change that.

Let’s start here: Stop focusing on ‘the problem’; ‘our disadvantage’; or ‘our lack’. Grab this opportunity and RUN with it. RUN!

What is the opportunity? See above.

  • Are we ready to run? What do we need to do/think/say/be/act differently in order to drastically shift our trajectory over the next 10 years?
  • Are we ready to make that shift, and have we clearly identified the shift we collectively want? The UN sustainable development goals by 2030 are a great place to start!
“A to-do list for people and planet, and a blueprint for success.” 17 goals and 169 targets to wipe out poverty, fight inequality and tackle climate change over the next 10 years.

So what’s our PLAN – our collective plan?

PowHERhouse believes we need a well-coordinated, well-communicated National Mobilization Strategy that Canadian women are invited to step into and take action on; well-aware of at a grass-roots level rather than pockets of efforts that can feel disjointed, siloed, and separate.

❗  Do we want it bad enough?

The individual or micro level is where I’ve been playing for many years.

Honestly, at times I wonder if we want it bad enough. But rather than stay there with that mindset – regardless of the answer – I imagine that we do!

  • I imagine what we ‘say’ we want and how we lead our lives is completely congruent.
  • I imagine we’ve recaptured our bold and brave pioneer spirit, more than ready to re-create a new 2030 frontier.
  • I imagine we’re fierce, intense and ferocious warriors, ready to protect all that is important to us.
  • I imagine we’re wide awake! Ecstatic about our lives and our freedom and ability to lead them powerfully!
  • I imagine we’re HUNGRY- we’re oh, so hungry! – full of grit, tenacity, desire, and total dedication for ALL we’re here to fully realize on in this lifetime.

Our trajectory drastically changes as we become…

🔥🔥🔥 FIRED UP for all that is our potential.

🔥🔥🔥 FIRED UP in a way we haven’t been in a very, very long time.

🔥🔥🔥 FIRED UP with Faith. Ready to Dance with Fear.

🔥🔥🔥 FIRED UP and ready to think, be, imagine and act on all that is possible.

Whatever we think, believe, or imagine is.

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world

You, you may say I’m a dreamer

But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will live as one …”
Thank you, The Beatles.
